What are the core ingredients for a successful festival? Live music, theatre, street food, and craft stalls. Purley Festival has them all. It also has some other goodies in store too, most of which are free to enjoy.
Between the 24th -30th June join the locals at the Rotary Fields for six fun days of family entertainment. There will be three stages dedicated to live bands & musicians, including performance from the talented 14-19 year olds from the BRIT School, an upfront dance band called The Come on People, and the Croydon Ukulele Jammers.
Children of all ages will be kept busy with activities such as a Kung-fu based martial arts session for 4-10 year olds, toddler yoga, Little Rascals Crafty Crafts, and ballet lessons.
During the week there will be activities going on all around town, such as a Soundcheck talent contest for singers, dancers, comedians and poets, a barbecue at the Sunrise Senior Living National Care Home, local history walks, and performances of Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra at Christ Church. You'll also be able to learn some new skills at a creative writing workshop or a guitar lesson for beginners, and build up a sweat with cardio tennis. After your work out, take up the offer of a free fifteen minute taster session by Rosanna Mallozi, who will introduce you to The Bowen Technique, an unique form of holistic therapy that manipulates the muscles. To book a session, you can call 0208 726 6900.
Got a snack attack? You'll be spoilt for choice with all the food stalls. Sweet tooth fiends will find their haven at Cheng's Doughnuts, and for those who like it hot, head over to Horn Oak for an Indian take out.
