If you have ever wondered where your lottery money goes, you can discover some of the results at the Southbank Centre. After being granted funding from the Lottery Heritage fund, the Royal Festival Hall's 7,866-pipe organ underwent a six year restoration, which has finally come to completion. The process involved repairing, cleaning, overhauling the electrics, and reinstalling. Looking magnificent once more, the Southbank Centre want to celebrate, not only the organ's reinstatement, but also it's sixtieth anniversary, having been installed in 1954.
Between the 18th March - 7th June, they will Pull Out All The Stops for an Organ Festival full of recitals, workshops, and discussions.
Tickets to the Gala Launch are £15-£25, and will feature a celebrity cast of organists who will join Southbank's resident London Philharmonic and Philharmonia Orchestras. Pieces will not only include famous works by Bach and Mendelssohn, but also specially commissioned compositions by Sir John Tavener Sir Peter Maxwell Davies.
