Improving people's English, at a time that suits the student
Lots of my overseas friends want to improve their English but find that work and family life get in the way. Courses are the usual option but many people find them expensive and difficult to fit around work.
The Guides and Tutors help students prepare for home office English exams
The Praxis Language Gym has recently opened in Holloway offering a range of courses. Students can study online, which makes it perfect for busy people. Rather than having a set time, students get given a learning plan, which is individually tailored to their needs and can either work online or come to the Language Gym whenever they have time.
The students can work online or in the centre.
In the Language Gym, students can meet with their Tutors and other students, take part in daily learning circles on topics like pronunciation, CV writing, interview skills and presentations. This gives them the perfect chance to practice the skills they have learnt online.
Praxis has over 30 years' experience in helping newcomers to the UK.
The teachers are fully qualified (not always the case in some English colleges) and are available all day for email contact, feedback on your work or contactable via their Skype-like video conferencing. Or, of course, you can pop in and see them in person, in Holloway. They also have Learning Guides on hand to help with things like job applications, paying bills or anything else that might be difficult in a 2nd language.
Students can study with a mixture of online materials and group conversation circles.
More flexible than a traditional class, the PLG is a great alternative for busy, working people. At around £4 an hour, it works out much better value too. It would really suit people who need to improve their language fast, for work or for Home Office visa preparation.
