Fly Away With Peter and Stanley

Children will be whisked away on exciting and dangerous adventures over the next few months. Just the thing they need to keep them warm as the weather gets colder.

The Polka Theatre presents a brand new season of theatre over autumn and winter, including classic stories and a new original play. There is something for all ages, starting with little ones aged 3 - 7. Until the 12th October, they can join an exciting expedition because We're Going on a Bear Hunt. The charming picture book by Michael Rosen has been adapted into an entrancing puppetry adventure, directed by Peter Glanville. Tickets for adults and children are 13.50 or 10 concessions.

From the 8th October, 2 - 5 year olds can go on an unforgettable adventure to wherever their imaginations take them. Grandad, Me...and Teddy Too is an original play by Sarah Argent, following the success of Gorilla and Too Many Penguins. Preview tickets and concessions are 9, while stand adults and children tickets are 11.50.

I remember reading Flat Stanley in primary school. The book by Jeff Brown is a bit odd, in that Stanley is only odd for the first story, and then back to normal, but that one story is very entertaining. It is amazing the things you can do when you are as flat as a pancake - slide under doors, fly like a kite, get posted through the letter box. Mike Kenny adapts Flat Stanley for the stage, and will be show from 16th October. Tickets are 13.50 or 10 concessions.

As much as I enjoyed Flat Stanley as a child, nothing is more magical than Peter Pan. JM Barrie wrote it both as a novel and a play, and it has been performed on stage countless times. But it never gets old. Get whisked away to Neverland from 21st November.

As well as these long running productions, there will also be some visiting shows making short or one off appearances. These include Curious, a tale of getting messy in the kitchen; Angel, a heartwarming story about getting old; Maisy's Band, an adventure based on Lucy Cousins's picture book mouse, and an adaptation of the CBBC TV show Little Howard's Big Question. In Little Howard and the Magic Pencil of Life and Death, there will be plenty of interactive stand-up comedy, 3D animation, songs, and laughs.
