Cars, Boats, and Trains for Dads
Dads are special people; they gave us so much when we were little, and never stop loving us, no matter what. That is why it is important to celebrate Fathers' Day every year. As kids we gave our dads cards, a Full English in bed, and a handmade gift, but as adults, we can do a little bit more.
On the 16th June, why not treat your dad to a day out? There are plenty of daddy type things to do, especially if he likes things with motors.
Father's Day at Claremont Portsmouth Road, Esher, KT10 9JG
A National Trust garden is probably more the place you would think about taking your mother on Mothers' Day, but between 10.30am-4pm at Claremont Garden, the Surrey Classic Car Owners Club will be displaying a variety of vehicles from the 1930'2 onwards. Take him to look at some Austins, Bentleys, and Rovers, then enjoy lunch in their tea room. Admission to the park is £6.80, but if Dad is going with the kids, then entry is free.
Motorexpo One Canada Square, Canary Wharf, London, E14 5AB
The Motorexpo is the largest free motor show in the world. It will be at Canary Wharf between the 10th-16th June, so is perfect timing for Fathers' Day. Between 11am-5pm, you can see the latest cars from Aston Martins, BMWs, Jaguars, Land Rovers, Mercedes, and more. If your dad is thinking about getting a new set of wheels, then the Motorexpo will give you access to all sorts of dealers, who will be offering free test drives.
Father's Day Cruise Mill Lane, Broxbourne, Hertfordshire, EN10
If your dad prefers boats to cars, then for £25, you can treat him to a trip down the River Lee. The three-hour cruise lasts between 12.30pm-3.30pm, and will include a three-course meal, which you will be able to eat while admiring the passing countryside.
Bluebell Railway The Bluebell Railway, Sheffield Park Station, East Sussex, TN22 3QL
Journey through the countryside on a Fathers' Day railway journey. Two £39 tickets will give you and your dad an hour and forty-five minute journey from Sheffield Park to East Grinstead on an old steam Wealden Rambler, and will include a Full English Breakfast. The train departs at 9.30am, and your ticket will let you take other train journeys throughout the day.
Silverstone have three special offers for Fathers' Day. For £59 you can book your dad a 4 x 4 Extreme Experience, in which he will be able to drive a Land Rover through an off-road course. Or if you just can't decide, let your old man make the hard decisions, and buy him a Thrill Super Choice Voucher for £79.
Your dad will have the option to get behind the wheel of any eight Silverstone racing cars, including a Ferrari 360 Modena, Aston Martin V8 Vantage, and a Lotus Evora. If you are looking for something more affordable, and your dad doesn't mind waiting, then you can also book a £20 tour of the Silverstone race circuit for the 20th July.
