As one of the largest chains in Britain, I realise it is unlikely that any souls in London will be new to the wonders of Pizza Express. However, I'm convinced that Kingston's Portsmouth Road restaurant is favourably different, and well worth writing about.

Situated within the oldest building in the historical market town, the restaurant has an abundance of cosy charm, thanks to the original beams, low ceilings and multi-level flooring. The characteristic windows deter any comparisons being made between this little gem and the typically vast structures of other restaurants within the chain. In fact, it would be easy to mistake the interior for that of a family pizzeria.

The service is very relaxed, which suits the environment, but the staff are also very helpful and efficient. In typical Pizza Express style, the food is simple but delicious, and all of the pizzas are freshly made as you order. When I visit (which is often) I can't resist indulging in three courses, and with such reasonable prices it really is a guilt-free treat.

Overall, the dining experience at Pizza Express Portsmouth Road is a comfortable delight, setting itself apart from the usual noisy stereotype, and leaving you eager to return. If you're not usually a fan of Pizza Express, I urge you to give this place a chance, it may well surprise you!
