The half-time pie.

If this brings to you a mixture of expectation, relief and disappointment - then you will understand I'm talking about the food that is sold inside the many football stadia in and around the UK. The half-time pie is both looked-forward to in Winter, as a warmer for those cold hands and insides after 45 minutes or more of sitting in the rain, bitter cold, or worse...

The disappointment usually comes with the first bite - as they never, never live up to your expectations, in fact probably as much as the team you are supporting.

Let me tell you about this place then, which will blow Arsenal supporters, as well as pie connoisseurs, away.

Piebury Corner, a play on the name of Arsenal's old stadium name, Highbury - is a modern and thoroughly updated version of the London staple - the pie and mash shop - except these pies are award winning. Sourced from around the UK, the pies are given names relating to legends from the annals of Arsenal sporting history, though how they match up the flavours to the players is perhaps a secret only the owners know...

Should you fancy the Charlie George, you'll get a full and flavoursome traditional minced beef and onion pie - perfect with the mash offered as a side order. The Thierry Henry will get you an extravagant venison and red wine version, which is probably better with a salad. Then there is the potato, cheese, garlic and onion pie which is named rather amusingly the Viera'getarian.

There's alcohol to go with them too, and fancy little pastries to finish things off too. I have a soft spot for the chorizo scotch eggs myself...

So, next time you're in the area, don't wait for half time, get in there straight away...
