The Peninsula Youth Orchestra has travelled all the way from America to perform a concert just for you - well okay, they also came to see the sites and have a good time.
Based in San Francisco,
The Peninsula Youth Orchestra teaches and nurtures the talent of young musicians between 6 - 18 years old. With weekly meetings, they focus mainly on contemporary literature and works by American composers.
The organisation has several ensembles, including a Senior Orchestra, three Preparatory Orchestras, two Flute Ensembles, and several string & chamber ensembles. One of these groups is the Peninsula Young Artists, who since 2004 have been touring the world. Not only does this allow a wider audiences to appreciate their music, but also gives the kids a chance to visit lots of different countries, explore different cultures, do some sightseeing, and have a fun time.
On the 1st July, the Peninsula Young Artists will arrive at
Christ Church Cathedral in Spitalfields, London. The concert is free to attend, and begins at 8pm; it will include compositions by Bizet, Holst, Elgar, Stravinsky, Bernstein, and Sousa, as well as the complete
Harry Potter soundtrack.
