With the fifth series of Peaky Blinders keeping viewers on their seats, an artistic campaign by the BBC across Birmingham and further afield has been gripping fans - but who are behind the paintings?

The 16 paintings emblazoned across buildings, billboards, walls, emails and digital screens are by a talented group of artists including one by local West Midlands painter Sue Verity.

Artist Sue Verity from Tamworth near Birmingham, runs her own company Verity Art .

Sue's painting of Arthur Shelby beat off competition from more than 1,200 submissions of fan art to reach the final chosen 16, which have been commissioned by the show's creators.

Professional artist Sue Verity chose Shelby brother Arthur, played by Paul Anderson, as the inspiration for her portrait and explained: "I find Arthur's character really intriguing, we all love him even though he is a bit unhinged with a fiery temper. I thought the image I painted captured that side of him really well."

The 54 year old artist is working on an additional 10 Peaky Blinder's inspired pieces for an exclusive exhibition launching in Birmingham's famous Jewellery Quarter early next year.

After starting her career as a hairdresser, Sue followed her dream to become an artist, creating paintings that incorporate celebrities from Johnny Depp to Tyson Fury. "With creative work, I always say that when someone buys a piece of my art, they are also buying a piece of me," added Sue. "That's the nature of this work."

Other fan art pieces that are on display include Tommy's Turmoil by Liam Proniewicz with leader of the gang Tommy Shelby amid stark reds and blacks.

Alice Matthews painted a striking image of Polly, which she has called Peony Rose. Alice said: "Polly is a powerhouse of a woman, but her character is more than just being the matriarch of the family. I wanted to paint something that showed her strength and resolve. Complimenting her power with a soft palette and the delicate details of the Peony Rose to reflect the contradictions that exist within her."

The full range of fan art is on display online on the Fan Art exhibition page here .
