Bethnal Green Working Men's Club was founded in 1953, but unlike some working men's clubs I've seen that are rather stuck in the past in terms of decor, policies, and entertainment, the venue on Pollard Row is very current and with it.
At least it usually is. On the 3rd October, Bethnal Green Working Men's Club want you to Party Like it's Your Birthday in a 90s themed bash full of seriously silly party games, mental decs, and free food.
Lucky birthday girls and boys get free entry if you email (firstname.lastname@example.org) in advance, and their party guests get in for just £3. For everyone else it is £5 between 8pm - 10pm and £7 from 10pm - 2am.
Let out your 90s wild child with games of Twister, Musical Chairs, and Pass the Parcel. There will also be a cheese and pineapple hedgehog from the Iceland supplied buffet, which admittedly sounds more 70s that 90s, but who cares?
Party music will include 90s pop charts from 2 Unlimited, Ace of Base, Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, Sash, The Vengaboys, MC Hammer, Kim Wild, Shaggy, Sweet Femal Attitude, Oxide and Neutrino, Sir Mix-a-lot, Snap, Salt'n'Pepper, Haddaway Dead or Alive, R.Kelly, DJ Jean, Backstreet Boys, Take That, Rednex, Five, and Artful Dodger.
If you can't think of what to wear, we'll save you the embarrassment of coming in your birthday suit and give you some suggestions. Why not dress like your favourite character from Saved by the Bell? If you didn't grow up in the nineties that probably means nothing to you, so here are some more thoughts: bowties, braces, hammer pants, crop tops, short shorts, scrunchies, swatch watches, mood rings, Kangol hats, and so on.
