Two new exciting music exhibitions are set to run in Birmingham, honouring Black Sabbath and its lead singer Ozzy Osbourne this Summer, to coincide with the heavy metal band's final gig at Villa Park. The Back To The Beginning concert features a long list of rock icons in support of the band, from Metallica to Slayer, Pantera, Alice in Chains, Anthrax and Slash from Guns N'Roses.
Central BID Birmingham has announced the free exhibitions. One is a world-first at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, celebrating the solo achievements and global awards of rock icon Ozzy Osbourne. Called 'Working Class Hero,' it runs from June 25 to September 28 and showcases Ozzy’s most prestigious international honours.
Fans will be able to get up close to accolades including Grammy Awards, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame accolades, MTV awards, Hollywood Walk of Fame and Birmingham Walk of Stars honours. There will also be a selection of his platinum and gold discs, which recognise millions of record sales around the world, alongside photography and video that charts his journey from “a working-class kid from Aston” to becoming the world’s most recognisable global rock legend.
The second is an outdoor exhibition at Victoria Square in Birmingham city centre showcasing the album art of the original Black Sabbath line-up - Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, Bill Ward and Ozzy Osbourne. It also opens on June 25 and will run through the Summer, into early Autumn.
Alongside iconic album artwork, fascinating facts about the band’s Birmingham roots will be featured.
There will also be an added attraction of a stunning 40-metre street-long artwork in tribute to Black Sabbath featuring their iconic logo and lifelike portraits throughout the last seven decades. World-famous spray artist Mr Murals is creating the street art on a wall in Navigation Street, outside New Street Station.
Sharon Osbourne, Ozzy's wife, said:
"Ozzy is proof that no matter where you start in life, with passion, grit, and a little bit of madness, you can achieve the extraordinary. This exhibition is a thank you to the fans and the city of Birmingham – the place where it all began. We’re so proud to bring it home."
Sara Wajid and Zak Mensah, Co-CEOs of Birmingham Museums Trust, said:
"We are incredibly proud to host this prestigious exhibition dedicated to Ozzy Osbourne – a true Brummie icon whose influence spans generations and continents. Celebrating the life and achievements of someone so deeply connected to the city aligns perfectly with our mission to reflect and share Birmingham’s rich and diverse cultural heritage. We can’t wait to welcome visitors from near and far."
