A giant inflatable Ozzy Osbourne will greet visitors to a special album launch party in Birmingham on Saturday, September 10, 2022. The 25-foot high figure of the Black Sabbath frontman will be at
Mutt Motorcycles , Lakeside, Lifford Lane, Stirchley, from noon till 10pm, to celebrate the release of Ozzy's
Patient Number 9 album.
The free event, which also marks Mutt Motorcycles' first anniversary in Stirchley, will feature street food, competitions – and lots of loud music. An exclusive vinyl edition of the album (including an
Ozzy Osbourne comic book made in conjunction with award-winning Canadian comic book maestro
Todd MacFarlane ) will be available to buy at the launch.
Patient Number 9 boasts an impressive line-up of guest stars, including Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Zakk Wylde and Mike McCready of Pearl Jam. For the bulk of the album, Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers held down drums, while the late Taylor Hawkins of Foo Fighters also made an appearance. Old friend and one-time Ozzy band member Robert Trujillo of Metallica played bass on most of the album's tracks, with Duff McKagan of Guns N' Roses and Chris Chaney of Jane's Addiction guesting on a few songs. Black Sabbath co-founder and guitarist Tony Iommi, contributed to two songs, the first time he has played on a solo Ozzy Osbourne album.
Ozzy says: "
My last album, Ordinary Man, was released just a few weeks before the pandemic started, and I was just about getting ready to go into the studio to work on this new one when the world shut down. It's no secret that the last four years have been very difficult for me but making this album took my mind off my problems."
The first single from the album is the title track, with Jeff Beck on guitar.
"
Having someone like Jeff Beck play on my album is just incredible, a total honour," Ozzy says. "
There's no other guitar player that plays like him and his solo on Patient Number 9 is just jaw-dropping."
Todd McFarlane directed the track's video. He says: "
Having worked with Ozzy in the past, I jumped at another opportunity to do so again… especially on the music side this time. In the harsh business called the music industry, any creative person who's sustained a multi-decades career has shown the skill, talent and tenacity that will always garner my admiration. Ozzy has shown many of us creative folks that it's indeed possible to make a living doing what you love for nearly an entire lifetime."
