Every Sunday afternoon in Twickenham, there is a family roller disco at Orleans Park School. Run by the roller skating club D-Instinct , the afternoon session starts with drop-in lessons between 1.30pm-2.30pm, and then the disco follows from 2.30pm-4pm.



I went a couple of weeks ago with my family to check it out. The cost is £6 per person (over 5s only), plus £1 each for skate hire. My five-year-old had never skated before, so she was a bit wobbly on her feet, but she still really enjoyed it. We did not attend the lesson drop-in, but the instructors were still on hand during the family disco with some tips and words of encouragement. She actually did really well for a beginner and managed a few laps unaided around the gymnasium, spurred on by the disco tunes. During the 90-minute session, the music stopped intermittently for some games - which we sat out of - they looked like fun for the more experienced skater!



If you'd like to gain some skills on wheels or just have a bit of fun skating around freestyle to the music, then it's worth a visit. We got off at St Margaret's station and it's about a ten-minute walk from there. It's a similar distance from Twickenham station too. The secondary school is on Richmond Road, TW1 3BB, and the roller disco is held in the gymnasium there.

The company also run skating parties and they seemed like a really friendly group.
