If you'd like to take a look at some Olympic medals up close, or fancy holding the Olympic torch, head down to the Royal Opera House in London's Covent Garden.

The Olympic Journey the Story of the Games is a free exhibition open from now until Sunday 12 August.

Summer Olympic medals since 1896 will be on show, along with Olympic torches dating from 1936, and visitors will have the chance to get their photo taken with the London 2012 Olympic torch.

The Olympic Museum in Lausanne has brought some of its trophies and treasures to the Royal Opera House for this special event, which charts the history of the games from Ancient Greece to the present, and recounts the trials and triumphs of top athletes including Jesse Owens, Olga Korbut, Steve Redgrave and Kelly Holmes.

The exhibition, which forms part of the London 2012 Festival of arts and cultural events, is open daily from 10am with last entry 6.15pm. Tickets are not necessary for this event.
