I'm discovering Southampton along with you!
Adding to their programme of fun family theatre these February half term holidays, catch Olaf the Horrible, Viking Tale at the Groundlings Theatre on February 14th. It might not be much of a Valentine's Day date idea, but your children will definitely have a laugh at the antics of Olaf as they learn a bit more about Viking history and culture.

Olaf is on a quest to find Thor's lost magic belt, but he finds life pretty hard as a Viking. While on his quest, he'll also teach the audience all about ancient Norse culture and some stories behind their famed warfare. There's definitely a bit to learn, but your children will laugh a lot while they're doing it.

Olaf the Horrible, Viking Tale is part of the Groundlings' Picnic Children's Theatre. Bring along a picnic to nibble on while you watch the show so that no one gets hungry and everyone stays entertained.

Tickets are £6.50 for adults, £5.50 for children and £20 for adults. If you purchase a ticket to two other Picnic Children's Theatre shows then you'll receive the third for free. Tickets can be purchased online on the Groundlings website, or by calling the box office on 023 9273 7370.

Theatre in Education at the Groundlings
Olaf the Horrible, Viking Tale is one of many fun educational plays developed by the Groundlings Theatre Company. Their Theatre in Education programme is regularly brought to schools as a way to explore history curriculum topics in a fun and entertaining way. As well as exploring the vikings, other topics include Ancient Egypt, the World Wars, the Victorian Era and even Prehistoric humans. Families can catch some of this same educational entertainment at the Groundlings during term holidays, but if you're interested in having them visit your school you can find more information on their website.

The Groundlings Theatre is at 42 Kent Street in Portsmouth. It's about 20 miles from Southampton and about a 30 minute drive.
