If anyone has read my reviews before, they will know that I've stated my love of Italian restaurants and, that I'm fairly critical of them- knowing what I like in an Italian cuisine.

Well, I'm pleased to say that I can rave about Numero Uno.

The light and airy restaurant in Tooting Bec, London, manages to maintain a pleasant intimacy and comfort despite being so open, even having a few tables outside so diners can indulge al fresco.

I've been to the pleasant eatery a few times now, but I think it was on my last visit that I ordered best.

Firstly, I ordered a glass of prosecco, which, if it is a nice one is always a good idea in an Italian restaurant, and gladly it was very good: light, crisp and refreshing.



I started the meal with scallops, and they came with a balsamic vinaigrette and pancetta and were cooked to perfection. The scallops meaty, thankfully not overcooked and rubbery.

One of my fellow diners had the pasta soup, which they too raved about, saying that it was tasty and would have been enough for a meal in itself.

For the main course, I had the seafood pasta. It was packed with the sea's finest offerings, including prawns, squid mussels and clams, all topped off with a rich tomato sauce.

This has to be one of the finer seafood pastas I've had in recent times, the seafood, again, was cooked perfectly.

The prosecco went down very nicely with the seafood and didn't leave me feeling too full or heavy afterwards. Excellent!

My fellow diner had veal, of which there are many varieties on Numero Uno's menu, and said it was divine.

If you fancy venturing out of London's bustling capital for somewhere a little more peaceful, this restaurant is a definite recommendation.
