Macbeth is one of Shakespeare's best-known works. It has been immortalised through countless performances on stage and screen. In May, the National Theatre present a combination of both as part of the NT Live series. Broadcast at the new NST City on May 10th 2018, you can enjoy the National Theatre production of Macbeth without needing to head to London's Olivier Theatre.
The tragedy of Macbeth follows a bloody power struggle for Scotland's throne fuelled by greed and ambition, following a prophecy delivered by three witches. Shakespeare's play delves into the psychological anguish of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth as their quest for power becomes too much for either to bare.
NT Live provides an opportunity for people all over the world to watch National Theatre productions. For many, the price of world-class professional theatre can be prohibitive, but the NT Live broadcasts provide quality live recordings at a fraction of the cost. They open the world of theatre to many who do not have the means to visit the theatre due to location or funds.
If you do want to catch the National Theatre's Macbeth live on stage rather than live on screen, unfortunately you've likely missed your chance. While the show is being performed at the Olivier Theatre in London from February 26th till Saturday 12th May, tickets are currently sold out for all shows.
As well as NST City, NT Live: Macbeth will also be broadcast at other cinemas in Southampton and surrounding areas. As the broadcast is live, all screenings are on the 10th of May at 7pm. Tickets are £17.50, with some venues offering discounts or VIP seating options. Tickets for the NST City broadcast can be purchased from the NST website or by calling the box office on 023 8067 1771. See the list below for a list of the other venues broadcasting the production.
