With the last of the floats making their way home around about now, and thousands of revellers resting tired legs, so comes to an end London's Notting Hill Carnival.

Now in its fourth decade, arguably Europe's largest street party arrives in W11 annually on the August Bank Holiday weekend, celebrating the local Afro-Caribbean communities in a dazzling parade of music, dancing and food.

This year was made even more special by the other party in town, the Olympics, and meant that Londoners were treated to a taste of Brazil by The London School of Samba, marking the Olympic handover.

As well as this, the carnival noted 50 years of Jamaican independence meaning that locals and tourists alike were treated to a truly international festival.
