All the Gizmos a Professional Cook Could Need
Nisbets, Comerical Street
If anything is going to stop me in my tracks as I walk down the street, it is the word 'baking'. Thus the sign in Nisbets's shop window brought me to a sharp halt.
Admittedly, I was not their target market. Nisbets is a catering suppliers for people who run cafes, restaurants, bars, and other eating establishments. They are however, also open to the public, so I couldn't not resist a peek inside.
The sheer scale of the equipment made me feel like a mouse trying to swallow a gobstopper. They had everything you would expect in a household kitchen, only twice the size. 1100w microwaves (compare against my 650w) big enough to fit a turkey, giant crepe cookers that look like you could play the drums on them, a cooking pots large enough to boil your other half in if they rub you up the wrong way once too often. Nisbets is definitely a place you want to go if you run or are thinking of starting up your own professional kitchen.
Many of these items were in fact familiar to me, as I work behind a bar/kitchen. Many a time I have washed pots and pans big enough to climb in, and many a time have I toasted a panini on a double grill.
There are items in Nisbets that will also appeal to the general public, such as bakeware, cutlery, kitchen knives, storage, etc. If you have a big family, then a six slot toaster could come in handy too. Now you can cook everyone's breakfast at the same time. Been thinking about a KitchenAid mixer, but reluctant to make the spend? Nisbets have a low price guarantee and promise to beat any published price by 5%.
In the basement you can also find some very nice crockery sets, bread baskets, and Kilner jars for jam or other preserves.
Nisbets started out as mail-order service in 1983 when Andrew Nisbet realised that catering students were all in need of the same things - particularly uniforms. It has since become a multi-national company and sells via catalogues, online, and in-store. There are three in London, including Shoreditch, Shaftesbury Avenue, and Fulham Road. Whether you are in catering, or need something for the home, you'll be sure to find it at Nisbets.
