The Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium have prepared a fun weekend of festivities to celebrate stars, planets and everything else we find fascinating about the night sky. There will be two full weekend of events, making the most of the hands on exhibitions of the science centre and some special space themed presentations and activities. Presented in conjunction with the
Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation at the University of Portsmouth,
Night Sky Live! promises to have an equal amount of fun and learning.
Night Sky Live! will be on at the Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium on
Saturday 24th and
Sunday 25th of February, and
Saturday 24th and
Sunday 25th of March.
There will be hands-on activities for children to learn more about space and astronomy, as well as creative areas where they'll get an opportunity to create their planisphere or even design a constellation. Astronomers from the University of Portsmouth will be on hand all weekend, delivering presentations and answering any questions that come their way.
A more comprehensive programme is available from the
Winchester Science Centre website. You can also book tickets online, either in advance or on the day. The majority of the activities are included in the admission fee, but there will also be optional tickets available for the Planetarium's live show,
The Colours in the Night Sky, presented by Dr Frohmaier from the University of Portsmouth.
Live star gazing will be available from 6:00pm.
Entry to the Winchester Science Centre is £10.91 for adults, £8.73 for seniors and £7.64 for children 3-15 years. Children under 3 years are free. Tickets for the live show are an extra £1 and it's recommended you book in advance for both entry tickets and the live show.
