Spend the Night and Day in Newcastle

When thinking of Newcastle, you would not necessarily think to describe it as beautiful, but the Victorian and modern architecture seem to work in perfect harmony (unlike in some areas of London where these seem to clash). I didn't have time to explore it myself, but I heard from locals that the quayside is meant to be breath-taking.
In the evening, I went to "
Pizzeria Francesca's " on Manor House Road in Jesmond. There are no bookings taken at this restaurant so if you want to go you will have to queue but it really is worth it. The interior has that rustic Italian feel to it - retro blue and white football shirts on the wall, old black and white family photos, little bronze trinkets - but most importantly the food is delicious at good prices! The service is also fantastic, which was a surprise because they were so busy, not to mention all those loud, sometimes impatient, punters waiting to be seated.
If you're into less mainstream house/techno music the
Cosmic Ballroom (on a Faction night) is the club to go to in the Chinatown of Newcastle. That's right, there's a tiny Chinatown in Newcastle. Amazing! The club itself has two rooms. A big, grungy one on the ground floor, and a smaller slightly intimate, dare I say cosy, one upstairs. The loos are clean, which is a bonus, and the atmosphere is great. If you are a smoker though, you might not enjoy the smoking area. Yes, there's space for everyone, but it's a back alley, where rubbish is obviously meant to go - I think the club was trying to voice its disapproval.
Hangover morning, no better place to go than "
Spy Bar " on Osborne Road. They do brunch until 4pm - awesome. The brunch is delicious, but I have to say (especially if you're really hungover) stay away from the black pudding.
