Newark Castle is an intriguing landmark just outside of Nottingham city. The castle dates to the twelfth century and has connections with such famous events as the English Civil War and the adventures of Robin Hood. Approaching from the riverside, the medieval structure gives an impression of fortitude and raw strength. It's only after walking around to the entrance that you discover only one wall and a few tower remnants remain of the castle.
