Described as a "modern grill between the city and Shoreditch",
has been heralded as the new place to be of a Sunday afternoon, for its fantastic brunch.
Now I've always considered brunch an American thing. I don't recall sitting around eating for hours, nor have I ever seen it as something to 'do'. But oh, how my eyes have been opened.
I visited with one of my girlfriends recently, when she told me they offer 'unimited prosecco'. I'm not a drinker, but unlimited drink makes me smile, especially at the weekend when I don't need to worry about my friends, or their hangover.
That's one reason why the is great for a lazy brunch, though it's worth noting you can also try the bloody mary, also unlimited on Sundays. As for food, there are plenty of options but as I said, I visited with a friend, who had every intention of enjoying their brunch menu. You can't go wrong with the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon on rye bread, but my friend had her eye on the full English, which was as wonderful (and perfectly presented), as it should have been.
I went for the less heavy, and prettier-looking eggs, avocado and mushrooms. It was sublime. I cleaned my plate. Needless to say, I barely looked at the receipt out of sheer joy at what I'd eaten. I ended up taking my dessert (jam roly poly) home in a doggy bag because I was so satisfied with my brunch. New Street is definitely at the top of my list of eats in Shoreditch.
