Want an excuse for some great food and even better tequila? Then look no further than Neon Cactus, hidden away on Call Lane with a "blink and you'll miss it" exterior. My advice would be to keep your eyes wide open, as this is most definitely not a place to miss. Described as an "established member of the Call Lane family", this intimate bar/restaurant will not leave you disappointed.
Once inside, the setting is very relaxed, with the laid back and welcoming atmosphere being key to its charm. Dim lighting, comfy seating and candles add to this, all of which I unashamedly lapped up. What can I say? I'm a sucker for candles! For a place that oozes coolness and can only be described as "trendy" (yes, I'm aware I sound like a parent!), Neon Cactus proved it is not all fur coat and no knickers, with the food exceeding expectations and backing up the décor. With an extensive food and drinks menu, you will not be struggling for choice, with a dish available to suit even the most fussiest of eaters.
The 8 of us dining opted for the Mexican "feast", with the term feast being an understatement (Man vs food would struggle). For Ł9.95 you get nachos, tacos, a choice of a quesadilla or enchilada and fajitas between two. Griddled snapper with mango tequila dressing quesadilla was my personal favourite- choose it, you will not regret it! The portions are big, the food is undeniable fresh and extremely well cooked, what is not to like? Neon Cactus makes a refreshing change to the corporate chain Mexican restaurants and with the value for money it provides leaves you with enough change to grab a cocktail….
