"If this were played upon a stage now, I could condemn it as an improbable fiction", Twelfth Night.

Catching a theatre performance in London is a real treat and often you will be lucky enough to catch an extraordinary play with world-class actors. London's National Theatre is staging a new production of Shakespeare's celebrated comedy Twelfth Night and it promises to be just that. Directed by Simon Godwin, Shakespeare's classic comedy is given a new twist, and what's more you can catch it up and down the country.

The National Theatre will broadcast Twelfth Night live to over 650 cinemas across the UK on Thursday 6 April 2017. Some venues will show a second screening on Thursday 20 April. If, like me, you are based in SW London, Twelfth Night will be playing at the Richmond Odeon and the Richmond Curzon. Alternatively, check out this link for your closest screening: Twelfth Night Live Cinema.

Whether you manage to catch the theatre performance or watch it live at the cinema, it promises to be a delight. The play stars the wonderful Tamsin Greig. You might know her from Friday Night Dinner, Black Books or Episodes – and you may know she was lucky enough to snog Joey from Friends. Not a bad career so far. Tamsin plays a reinvented Malvolio. In this tale of mistaken identity and in a world where nothing and no one is quite what they seem, Tamsin plays Malvolia, a female version of Malvolio. The gender shift is a new take on the play that Tamsin will no doubt pull of with aplomb.

Other well known faces include Daniel Ezra from The Missing and Undercover, Daniel Rigby from Flowers and Jericho and Tamara Lawrence from Undercover.

Twelfth Night opens in the Olivier Theatre at the National Theatre on 22 February.

Don't forget to take a stroll along London's stunning Southbank too, before or after your performance. If you are looking for a nearby bite to eat, why not try Giraffe Restaurant.

And finally, here's a fun fact from The National Theatre: When Twelfth Night has its first preview on 15 February, it will be 415 years, one week and six days since its first performance back in 1602.
