National Theatre Live brings the best of British theatre direct from the stage to the big screen.
The next broadcast in the current season features Simon Russell Beale in Timon of Athens - Shakespeare's cautionary tale of over-consumption, debt and ruin, written in collaboration with Thomas Middleton.
Wealthy friend to the rich and powerful, patron of the arts, toast of the town, Timon of Athens is surrounded by free-loaders and sycophants. When his lavish lifestyle leads him into debt, he calls on his well-connected friends to help him out, but they abandon him, and he becomes an outcast from society, left alone to reflect on the moral bankruptcy of his life and times.
The Autumn-Winter season also includes new shows from the National, Shakespeare from the Globe Theatre and opera and ballet from the Royal Opera House.
Timon of Athens - broadcast live to selected cinemas in London and throughout the UK on 1 November and on varying dates internationally.
