Islington is so close to the centre of London you can literally go there by foot. In fact Londoners often times do this either for shopping or different cultural activities. For those of you who have never been to the N1 area, but plan to come sometime soon, read along. If you're in luck you might be able to catch some of these events before the end of the month.
17th May - Museums At Night. The event starts at 18:30 and finishes at midnight at the London Canal Museum. The entry costs only £5 and no advance booking is needed. A huge variety of art form various artists will be main attraction. There will also be a magic lantern show from 19:30 to 21:30. It will feature pictures of the Regent's Canal which haven't been available for the public for over a century. Another interesting detail mentioned on the official event Facebook page, is that there will be a short performance of opera singing. A small wedding fare where all local wedding suppliers will gather. The event is held by Pea Green Boat with assistance from Frederick's restaurant. 14th until 24th May - Eva Rothschild: What the Eye Wants. An art sculpture exhibition showing famous Irish artist Eva Rothschild's unique talent and creativity. The exhibition is held at Modern Art gallery. Entrance is free. While the gallery is technically not in the N1 area it is within a 30 minute walk. 21th May - Gus G AND Marty Friedman. The heavy metal titan Marty Friedman will join forces with Ozzy Osborne's new guitarist Gus G to turn the night into the ultimate event for metal heads all around. 22th May - The Rutles. The famous Beatles parody band will also be playing at the O2 Academy in Islington. Doors open at 19:00 and tickets cost £22.50. £25.80 if you book online. Age restrictions also apply. For more details check the official venue site.
The lives of people beneath the crown and the hidden rules of our democracy are the themes explored in Mike Bartlett's controversial new play. From 4 April 2014 to 25 May - Shezad Dawood: Towards The Possible Film. This is artist Shezad Dawood's first solo work in a London institution. The exhibition consists of an installation of large-scale paintings on textile, light sculptures and two films. Exploration of notions of reality, the mystical transformation of the self and different ritual are the main motives you will grasp. You can attend this event at Parasol Unit. Entrance is free. Opening hours start everyday from 10:00 and end at 18:00. Sundays are a little bit different as the gallery opens at 12:00 and closes at 17:00.
The ultimate hair and beauty event will take place at the Business Design Centre in Islington this year. World famous award winning hairdressers will compete with each other showing skill and mastery in hair styling. Besides witnessing the epic barber battle, you also have a chance to have a custom manicure done at any one of the numerous pop-up beauty booths. Relaxing massages and spa facials are also among the services carried out. There is also a free seminar programme covering a wide range of hair and lifestyle related topics. Ticket prices range for £10 in advance and £12 on the door.
