Moose & Moonshine Restaurant

If you've heard of Moose but never visited, then it's high time you checked out what all the fuss is about. With the original venue based in Manchester city centre, American diner-inspired Moose also has two separate venues in Liverpool and one in Crosby.
A firm fave amongst friends, the ever popular Moose Coffee has recently revamped their menu… and this seemed as good an excuse as any to go and get re-acquainted with the place on a lazy Sunday afternoon!
Renowned for their indulgent breakfasts & brunches, Moose is the type of place you can visit with friends for a coffee catch-up any time of the day, come rain or shine. It's worth noting that their Liverpool Hope Street branch (Moose and Moonshine) is open later than most and is the only venue that also serves up a range of quality ales to accompany their menu (cue the Moonshine part!)
As self-confessed fans of New York City, the Moose founders pride themselves in capturing the essence of authentic American/Canadian style breakfast cuisine. The current menu caters for Vegetarians and Vegans, and while they do have a range of hearty salad options on there, I wouldn't typically recommend a visit to Moose for those of you who are carb shy!
At a glance, the new menu has essentially swapped out soggy poutines for more streamlined versions of popular Moose classics. If you're in the mood for something a little different then I'd highly recommend one of the following two items:
Firstly - The Bronx Brunch Greenline (which also comes in meat and vegan versions FYI). This veggie version features potato hash interspersed with garlic, mustard and halloumi chunks and a selection of veg including jalapenos, cherry tomatoes and artichoke. Served with thick slices of toast and topped with 2 poached eggs and a drizzle of moreish Cajun ketchup.
Or, alternatively *drumroll please* I present to you….the gloriously bold 'Manolito' – something I can only describe as a Mexican-inspired breakfast sphere of dreams, Moose style! The Manolito features two warm tortillas covered with homemade refried beans, two free range fried eggs, salsa, grated cheddar cheese and fresh sour cream. Delightfully filling.
But what would Moose be without its classics? Notorious for their all-day American style choices here, if you're spoilt for choice then I know just the thing:
The hot buttery, maple syrup laden pancakes are the ultimate doughy indulgence and never fail to hit the spot. Stack them and choose whether you want yours to feature a sweet or savoury accompaniment, or simply embrace both (maple bacon is a staple) and work away until your heart's content. Laden yours with dollops of creamy vanilla ice cream (optional side) and lashings of fresh blueberries if the sweet/savoury combo isn't quite up your street! Sweet tooths can opt for the hot Belgium waffles instead with the same swap out options.
From stacked sandwiches to French toast and even eggs benedicts done 7 ways, there's sure to be something on their expansive menu that catches your eye (perhaps maybe their aptly named One Eyed Moose dish might even do the trick!)
Although popular, American breakfast style cuisine is understandably not for everyone, and if you're a first timer be warned that the portion sizes aren't particularly modest. Perhaps an acquired taste, one thing that can be said about Moose is that it's ultimately quirky Canadian comfort food for the masses!
Moose & Moonshine, in particular, is perfect for a boozy brunch hang out and if you're a fan of the décor you may be interested to know that the venue itself is available to hire for private events.
Check the websites for varying opening times depending on your choice of venue, and if you're feeding your little ones, ask for the kid's menu which features mini portions of all the classics. Enjoy!
