Journalling is all the craze right now, but while you might have searched for bullet journal spreads on Pinterest, you might not be quite so familiar with 'moon journalling'. Moon journalling is based around the idea that the lunar month and women's monthly cycles are linked. Like the waxing and waning of the moon, many women's cycles last for 28 days and go through similar phases. Moon journalling is about getting both in touch with your body and in touch with nature.
This is a creative hands-on workshop. You'll need to provide your own journal and an A5 dotted or blank journal is suggested, but not specified. There will be art materials available, but if you have your own pens, pencils and other supplies you are welcome to bring them along too. Anyone who is already interested in keeping a journal may find this is something new to try.
The workshop is run by New Forest & Southampton Red Tent. The organisation is created to be a space for women where they support and empower each other, and also connect with their own bodies and with nature. At Red Tent meetings, women share stories with each other, but they also share companionship. Red Tent gets its name from historical shelters where women would be sent when they were menstruating. Originally used to restrict and control women, the term is now used for something that serves the opposite purpose. The Moon Journalling Workshop and other Red Tent events are open to all female-identified people and trans women, genderqueer women, and non-binary people are all welcomed.
The Moon Journalling Workshop will be held at The Art House Gallery, Cafe & Venue at 178 Above Bar Street in Southampton. The venue is a frequent gathering space for groups for crafting, clubs, and music shows. Tickets for the workshop are £10.50 or £8.50 for concessions. There is an option to include an extra £2 donation to help support future Red Tent events and activities. Tickets can be purchased online. The workshop starts at 7pm on Thursday January 25th and will run until roughly 9:45pm.
