Peckham Space becomes the launch pad into outer space as its gallery is transformed into a starship. The the
Mobile Suit Academy exhibition will be open until 24th March and lets you experience the animation of
David Blandly and a group young artists from Harris Academy Peckham.
Based on Japanese Manga, the immersive installation is populated by robotic 'mobile suits' - anime characters dressed in exoskeletons. You will be able to explore the bridge of a cartoon-like spacecraft which appears to exist in both outer space and the real world at the same time. Embedded in the control panels of the shuttle will be video screens showing humorous and poignant animated stories set against the backdrop of Peckham.
David Blandly uses Manga and animation in his films to investigate the concept of alternative identities, authenticity, and experience.
