Who says Punk is dead? New band
Ming City Rockers certainly don't. The primal rock n 'roll outfit from Immingham in Lincolnshire fuse the spirit of punk with the classic rebellious rhythms of the likes of Chuck Berry, Gene Vincent, Link Wray, MC5 and New York Dolls.
They have the same hard working performing ethos as the punk acts that went before them - following their support slots on Palma Violets' last tour and their own UK headline tour in March and April, they are back on the road again with a visit to the Hare & Hounds in Kings Heath on May 20.
The band consists of Clancy Jones on rhythm guitar, vocals and harmonica, Morely Adams on lead guitar and backing vocals, Doc Ashton on drums and Jakki Walsh on bass.
Their just-released new single is
Twist It, a raw, scuzzy song that recalls Perry Farrell and The Stooges. The single is backed with
Once, Twice, Thrice a Lady, a short, sharp sting of blistering bar chords. The band's debut album will be released in the summer.
Support at the Hare & Hounds gig comes from Dong Fang, whose show is described by one reviewer as 'an alluring synthesis of garage, blues and rock and roll'.
