A Festival for the Mind

For all the geeks, nerds, and video gamers out there, now's your chance to show those Olympic athletes that you have what it takes to be a gold medallist too. Now in its seventeenth year, The Mind Sports Olympiad is an international and multi-disciplined competition that requires mental rather than physical agility.

The event is being held at the University of London Union, not far from Euston Station and for 10-15 you can enter a series of events including backgammon, monopoly, and draughts. There's also a number of non-competitive games that you can play for free.

The Olympiad runs until the 25th August, at which point they will announce the Pentamind World Champion; this is the person who achieved the best score across all the different categories.

There will be classic board games such as Scrabble, number crunchers like Sudoku, and retro video games, including Tetris. One of the most exciting games on offer is a classic with a twist; how do you think you'd fair with Diving Chess?

So have a go, win a medal, prove yourself a true Olympiad.
