Established in 1926, Merton Park Bowling Club began on a green by a car park. As the club grew, however, it qualified for the Surrey County competitions, and move to it current home at John Innes Park. Back then, however, it was completely a male affair, and it was not until 1962 that a women's group was founded. Now the two teams play both competitively with other cubs in London and Surrey.
They also play friendly games as well. Every Wednesday at 6pm from the 1st May to the 30th July, men, women and children of all abilities can join the club of a social evening of fun and games.
If you are looking to join a new club, then Merton Park Bowls is a great one to try out because your first visit is absolutely free. And if you have never played bowls before, on the 31st May, the club is holding an open day. Just pop over between 11am-1pm for a free taster session, where you can learn how to play, and if you would like to take it up as a hobby. Shoes and all over equipment will be provided.
