An annual arts, music and performance festival drawing on the rich heritage and contemporary culture of Bankside, comes to the cultural district for its third time this autumn. Bankside, centrally positioned on the River Thames is the perfect place to soak up all of the fun and excitement this festival has to offer.
Merge promotes and nurtures emergent talent and gives artists the opportunity to show alongside high profile international artists. A good proportion of the events are free or at very affordable prices. Expect to find disused hoardings and derelict buildings being put to use in an number of site specific original artworks in 'Bankside Transformed'. 'Musical happenings' promises a series of secret gigs in hidden historical places in and around Bankside, from some high profiled musos. Not to be missed! 'The Crucible'; is a networking event that brings scientists and artists together. These two important communities will have a place to meet; exchange ideas, and perhaps even kick start some collaborative projects. Including a talk by artist James Capper.
Merge festival opens up London's lost buildings before their regeneration, enabling artists to work in unusual and challenging contexts, whilst giving the public the opportunity to enjoy the history of the buildings for one last time. Taking art and music to the community, opening up discussion and fresh debate about contemporary art and culture.
