How do you drink your coffee? If you've evolved from a hot mug of
Nescafe 43, and are instead more interested in shots, pour overs and crema, then a trip to
Southsea Coffee for a cupping could be the next step in your coffee education. On Wednesday January 3rd, Southsea Coffee will be hosting a
cupping session featuring beans from London coffee roasters,
Campbell & Syme .
A cupping session is basically a coffee tasting. It's not just about taking a sip and picking out flavours, coffee cupping involves both the aromas and the taste of the coffee with a focus on the mouthfeel, sweetness, acidity and flavour of a particular brew. Cupping doesn't just introduce you to the particular varieties of beans you try on that day, but it can also help familiarise yourself with the qualities that you prefer in a coffee, which can help you make choices down the line.
The cupping session will be lead by Joe from
Campbell & Syme . Campbell & Syme are the roasters behind Southsea Coffee's house blend, and their single origin coffees frequently feature on the menu as well.
The cupping is free, but bookings are necessary. To keep up to date with future cuppings, like the
Southsea Coffee Facebook page and keep an eye on their events. Southsea Coffee is at 63 Osborne Road, Portsmouth a short walk from the Clarence Pier and the Clarence Esplanade.
