This Knight's Tale Will Rock You
Sir Stephen
Leeds Castle is an impressive Saxon Manor in Kent, and was the home of no less than six of England's Medieval queens, first and foremost being Queen Eleanor.
It is a fascinating place to visit, and there is far more to do than can be achieved in one day, which is what makes their ticketing system so appealing. Admittance to the castle is £21 for adults, £18.50 concessions, and £13.50 for children. But your ticket won't get you in for just one day, or even one season; it will buy you an entire year's worth of visits.
Aside from all the usual visitor attractions such as a maze, falconry displays, punting on the moat, and a playground, they also put on regular events. One such event is their annual Medieval Jousting Championship, in which two teams take up lances in a valiant battle for glory.
Leading the Red Team is Sir Jasper on his Andalusian stallion, Babeto. A veteran in the sport, he has competed in almost three thousand tournaments, and is the most experienced knight in the country. Sir Jasper's loyal, but rather foolhardy companion, Sir Stephen has sustained over twenty jousting injuries, most of which were probably a result of his cockiness and goading.
On the Blue Team is the young and dashing Sir Sam. He may be a rookie, but he and his Andalusian gelding, Azuquita, are not to be underestimated. The finally there is the damsels' heartthrob, Lord Ashley; agile, tricky, and mysterious, he is the dark knight of the competition.
The Championship will be held between the 28th May - 2nd June. Who will be you knight in shining armour?
