A shopperholic's dream
Sheffield is home to one of the UK's largest shopping centres. Meadowhall attracts over 30 million customers every year with shopperholics traveling across the country to come and get their fix.
The sprawling shopping centre, with its iconic glass dome, stands on an area which used to be a steelworks. Just three miles north of the city centre, the sparkling lights of this expansive site can be seen from the M1.
When Meadowhall was opened back in 1990 it was the second largest shopping centre in the whole of the UK. Today it still remains in the top 10. Over 280 stores are located on its two floors in an area covering around 140,000m².
As you wonder around its wide corridors you will find all the famous high street names like Debenhams, HMV, Miss Selfridges, Apple Store, Next and Game. You may also discover hidden gems and top fashion labels such as Hugo Boss, Puma, French Connection and Urban Outfitters.
After an exhausting shopping spree you can take the load off your feet and grab some lunch at the Oasis Food Court. The dining centre was reopened in 2011 following a £7 million refurbishment. Whether you are in the mood for Thai, Mexican or Italian, the wide selection of restaurants means you are bound to find something to tantalise your taste buds.
The enormous shopping centre is also home to the Vue cinema. Sit back with a tub of popcorn and watch the latest Hollywood blockbuster in one of its 11 large screens. It is an ideal way to unwind after a long day looking round the shops.
