A civic 'tea for two' on offer to Covid-19 'heroes'
People in the Staffordshire borough if Tamworth, who have demonstrated kindness and positivity during the coronavirus crisis, are being invited to join the local Mayor for a special afternoon tea at various local venues. Tamworth Mayor, Councillor Rosemary Claymore, will be supported by her consort and sister, Mrs Maureen Wood, as she celebrates individuals who have taken the time to go above and beyond personal expectations, and offered support and help to others during the pandemic. The afternoon tea will be arranged at locations across the town, including the Town Hall and independent cafes, restaurants and coffee shops. The Mayor will be inviting individuals to join a group of six people and is planning to host between one and two events a month. So far, she has a list of more than 40 people to invite, but is also eager to find more deserving people.
Rosemary said: "I have to thank all the hundreds, if not thousands, of selfless Tamworth people who have played such a vital part in keeping others safe, supporting those who have and continue to need support. The list is endless. You have truly been remarkable. I am looking forward to hosting small tea party groups and can't wait to meet these incredible people face to face. I'm hoping that a few of the events can be located in the beautiful castle grounds, as well as local business venues that offer amazing food and drink in our town. As we adjust to the new 'normal' and continue to follow Covid-19 guidelines, I would love all of our residents to let me know how they have been spending their lockdown time by sending me photos, artwork, 'creative' lockdown recipes, baking tips or written media which I will put on public display for all to share. It's vital that we have a historic record of this time for future generations to reflect on. It will be a lasting reminder of a unique time."
