Boris wants you to get on your bike - no, not to look for work, but to have fun!
He's closing off a load of roads to traffic of the noisy polluting variety so that you the cyclist can bike about London in peace, without having to worry about the articulated lorry coming up your rear or the bendy bus that's about to cut across in front of you, leaving you with a bendy bike, or worse, a bendy body.
Come rain or shine, the will take place on 5th September, is open to everyone and free to all. The aim is to get everyone out in the open air, on two wheels, enjoying the benefits of the bicycle and having fun.
Last year more than 60,000 cyclists participated, exploring quiet streets from the Mall by Buckingham Palace all the way to St Paul's Cathedral. There'll be lots of entertainment along the route too, including music performances and various sporting challenges. If you're of an exhibitionist bent, you could always enter the Wacky Riders competition by decorating yourself and your bike in a way that might cause someone to see you and say: "Look at that wacky rider over there." There will be prizes.
The London Sky Ride isn't a race. It's meant to be a leisurely, enjoyable day out on your bike with friends and family. Cycle as much of the route as you like, it's entirely up to you.
If getting on your bicycle means locating it in the garage under a pile of cobwebs and clutter, then the Sky Ride website offers some great advice to help get you and your bike up and riding again.
If you don't have a bike but still want to get involved, there are a number of cycle hire shops in London that should be able to help you out.
Enjoy yourself on the streets of London without the worry of cars, lorries and buses racing by. Oh, and don't forget your puncture repair kit!
