Tucked away in the outskirts of Covent Garden is Maxwell's, an Americana bar and grill frequented by tourists and Londoners alike. Spanning two floors, Maxwell's is always pretty fully packed, with its grand staircase acting almost as a highway with the amount of traffic this faux-dive gets.

Typical fare includes your run of the mill "American" food, such as burgers, ribs, and fajitas, but Maxwell's has really got it down to a science. Since it's so heavily frequented, they have to sling out each burger or barbecue to perfection, and they've nailed the system.



What really brought me into Maxwell's was their freakshakes. Freakshakes have become a viral phenomenon, and Maxwell's was the first in central London to start whipping them out. They have three different variations of these colossal milkshake monsters: Salted Caramel Donut (topped with a caramel glazed donut, natch), Milkshake from Mars which is every Mars Bar lover's dream, and you're not so standard take on the classic Oreo Shake which is topped with a giant ice cream sandwich and oreo cookies.

Being as indecisive as I am (I mean come on, all of these options are more than tempting), my friend and I decided to get the Salted Caramel Donut Freakshake and the Oreo Freakshake so that we could try both and swap around as needed. Neither my friend or I were prepared for what was brought to us.

As you can tell in the photo, these freakshakes are huge. We easily could've ordered just one and been more than satisfied. These giant mountains of sugary deliciousness definitely did us in, leaving us to hobble out of Maxwell's and wander aimlessly around London to try to walk off our massive milkshake meal.

If I had to recommend one over the other, I would say to order the Oreo one, as every aspect of it was incredible, from the ice cream sandwich to the Oreos to the shake itself. The salted caramel one was also incredible, and I preferred the shake portion of that one over the oreo one, but it's one fault was the rather generic tasting doughnut.

If I had to make another recommendation, it would be to bring loads of friends as trying to demolish one of these shakes on your own is almost like trying to climb Everest!
