Celebrated Canadian musician Matt Andersen is a big guy with a big sound – but we may also see his softer side when he plays Birmingham's O2 Academy on October 11, 2022. The show, which promotes his new acoustic album, is part of a UK and Irish tour that kicks off at The Workmans Club , Dublin, on October 8 and concludes at The Hope & Ruin in Brighton on October 18.

Matt's first acoustic solo studio record, House to House, was released to widespread praise earlier this year. The album emphasises a stripped-down sound without sacrificing the power Matt has become known for in his electric live performances.

He says: "Over the years I've come to really appreciate the moments in a show when I can chill out and not worry about making as much sound as possible. Songs that are as much about the space as they are about what happens between the spaces. Big and strong isn't big and strong if you don't have a quiet moment to compare it to."

On House to House Matt moves in a different direction from the dynamic, thumping blues that has earned him accolades and awards. He delves into gospel-infused folk, introspective singer/songwriter numbers and thoughtful ballads, showing a more intimate, softer side. That sparseness shows in the album's recording process, which occurred during the pandemic in his home studio in rural Nova Scotia. Tracks were recorded live with no overdubs.

During his music career Matt has amassed over 18 million streams on Spotify and 18 million views on YouTube. House to House is his ninth studio album and follows 2019's Halfway Home By Morning.

In addition to headlining major festivals, clubs and theatres throughout North America, Europe and Australia, he has shared the stage and toured with Marcus King, Beth Hart, Marty Stuart, Greg Allman, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Randy Bachman, Jonny Lang and Serena Ryder.

He scooped the 2013 and 2016 European Blues Awards for Best Solo/Acoustic Act, was the first ever Canadian to take home top honours in the solo category at the 2010 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, won the CIMA Road Gold award in 2015 and has won multiple Maple Blues Awards.
