Pies. The Great British staple. Loved in pubs, scoffed at football stadiums, served in chippies', and made by Mum at home. Forget all that fancy continental food, ignore the critics that say they're common, Britons have the right to a love affair with pies. They are simple, hardy, comforting, and delicious.

So why can so many of us not make them? Why are so many pies born out the oven with soggy bottom syndrome? The answer lies in the pastry.

If you would like to make the perfect pie, then sign up for one of Marika's classes at Central Street Cookery School. Established in 2009, The Pie Making Club is the only British pie making class in Britain. Marika will give you all the tips and techniques to making the perfect pie. Forget lazy tarts and casseroles, these are proper pies; double crusted with pastry on the top and bottom.

Her next Sunday class will be on 4th May and costs £60 for a four hour session. Marika also runs After Work classes that run between 6pm - 10pm. These cost £65, and after the lesson, everyone will sit down together to eat their creations with a pint of beer. Dates are the 20th March, 10th April, and 19th June.
