Storytelling and circus skills combined to provide fun and thrills for visitors of all ages to the delightful surroundings of
Tamworth Castle Grounds .
Marie Celestial is the creation of
Liberty Rocks Productions who staged two free performances on Saturday 9th June on the Lower Lawn of the Castle Grounds on the outskirts of the town. In partnership with Live and Local, Tamworth Borough Council's Arts and Events team helped deliver an 'other-worldly' experience on board a roaming, mechanical space-faring vessel. Marie Celestial is a performance with a difference by featuring a combination of storytelling, circus, fire and puppetry.
There were two performances of Marie Celestial, at 11am and 2.30pm, with the characters available in between to chat to visitors. Both shows were completely free of charge with no booking necessary. In the story-telling part of the show, a very clever small dinosaur becomes a scientist and builds a space and time-travelling machine. The narrative then repeatedly warns of the dangers facing our planet today as the dinosaur meets a tiger whose forest home is being destroyed and an octopus whose ocean is littered with plastic bottles, among other worrying environmental tales.&
#8203 ; There is a further 'green' message in that the large mechanical space galleon which is the main feature of the performance is created from recycled objects.
Although this was not the full and complete Marie Celestial show delivered by Liberty Rocks Productions, who specialise in everything from show production and set design to circus touring and arts in unusual spaces, the storytelling was followed by some circus acrobat skills on a rope stretched out on the side of the mechanical contraption. The performance was concluded by inviting children to climb on board Marie Celestial, and see the flame display closer at hand - with safety goggles of course.
