If you're a student, Mamsy's Thai restaurant is somewhere you will have walked past, and if not, you will have definitely had a Mamsy's flyer thrust at you. It's the kind of place which would be very easy to ignore, but I urge you to take a closer look.
It may not be the roomiest of places, and some of the décor may not be to everyone's tastes, but when you're tucking into a Pad Thai, none of this seems to matter anymore. The food is exceptional value for money. With lunchtime offers of a main meal for £5 and standard prices of a chicken Pad Thai or similar main meal for £6, it is perfect for a student budget. However, it is not your expected greasy student takeaway. The food is delicious, made all the better for the generous portion sizes. If you weren't too hungry you could even cut costs further by sharing a main.
On top of this, the staff are all so polite and friendly that you almost feel like you're doing them a huge favour just by being there. They are successful in creating a family-like feel; the homely atmosphere puts you at ease in a friendly and warm environment.
Mamsy's even goes that step further in being unique by exhibiting local artwork on their walls, showing that this is the kind of place that really values its community. They have a BYOB policy which is perfect for those wanting to save money or to make sure you have your favourite tipple when enjoying your meal.
I would recommend that everyone should try this restaurant once, be it to eat in or takeaway. As someone who had never tried Thai food before venturing here, I am now a fully-fledged convert and will happily return to give Mamsy's my custom again.
