It's all change at The Mailbox at the moment but it is business as usual at Malbar . My friends and I tend to find ourselves in Malbar when we're bored of the clubs and usual haunts Birmingham offers on a Friday night. Malbar is always a chic and swish venue, with a never too-busy bar and attentive staff.


The Friday night bubble time event is always a good bet with champagne offers and canapés from 5-8pm, followed by a DJ for the rest of the evening. The canapés are the good kind too, so if you're in the mood for a little nibble, give them a go. I can recommend the mango and brie bites, which are only too easy to eat.

On to the drinks: the cocktail list is inventive and vast. Try the Truth or Dare – it's a favourite in my circle of friends – or one of their fruit daiquiris. It can get really busy at weekends but they do table service so you'll never spend the night jostling at the bar.

Cocktails on Friday it is then.
