Most people like to share a glass of wine with friends over dinner, but at the same time, most of us are not wine experts, and just buy any bottle to have with a meal. No doubt these wines will taste nice, but they do not always compliment the dish.
Just like certain foods go well together (gammon and pineapple, lamb seasoned with mint, cranberry sauce or stuffing for the Christmas turkey), the same is true with wine. For example, sauvignon blanc goes well with garlic prawns, red burgundy is good for pate starter, and the most well known is strawberries and cream with a glass of champagne.
One way to impress your friends is to invite them to a dinner party, and serve each dish with the perfect accompaniment of wine. And if you need a crash course on what to pick, then L'atelier des Chefs is on hand to help.
On the 19th July, they are teaming up with
Majestic Wine for a
Food and Wine Pairing class in Oxford Circus.
The £65 two-hour class starts at 6.30pm, and you will be greeted with a glass of bubbly on arrival. A sommelier will introduce you to all the wines, before you are taken into the kitchen to prepare a three course meal. The chefs will give you tips and tricks, and provide a hands-on experience.
For the starter, you will make a smoked mackerel pate with cured cucumber, paired with St Aubin 1er Cru Gerard Thomas; the main will be lamb steak, glazed vegetables, and Domaine de l'Aigle Pinot Noir Gerard Bertrand; dessert follows in the form of a Dorset apple cake with Vouvray Moelleux La Levriere Bourillon d'Orleans.
Everyone who attends will get a £5 for Majestic Wine.
