Maison Mayci is the darling patisserie-come-cafe, which scents the East and West sides of Birmingham.

If, like me, you have walked past this little cafe lots of times without venturing inside, you have been missing out. Two friends and I popped into the Moseley branch (there's another in Kings Heath) for a quick coffee last weekend and ended up stocking up on all kinds of freshly baked treats, including mini tartlets that wouldn't have looked out of place in a fancy Parisian patisserie. They were almost too cute to eat. Almost.

The pastries and bread are made in a bakery near the Jewellery Quarter, which makes my heart sing because frankly, local food is better than imported, frozen, and re-baked goods. My friends and I joked we'll be regulars even though we all live on the other side of Birmingham. The pastries, are simply divine.
.
It's the little touches, however, which really make a difference. The service is better than what you'd expect from a seemingly average bakery. The staff pay attention, and if you give them your name, they will write it in fruity syrup, or chocolate, so you know which plate is yours.

Enjoying a plate of pastries, never felt so right.
