The 'Golden Pot' was described on the menu as a Thai creme brulee inspired by a 16th century Portuguese recipe. When my dessert arrived, however, it resembled nothing like a creme brulee.

At first I thought that they had got my order wrong, but there were no other desserts on the menu that matched its description.

The top was not caramelised, but was more like a skin of burnt milk sprinkled with icing sugar. Inside, there was no wobbly creamy filling, but what looked more like cake with grainy bits.

When I tasted it, my suspicions were confirmed; it is no creme brulee I've ever seen. The best I can call it is a banana rice pudding, and not a particularly appetising one.

When I got home, I looked up Thai and Portuguese creme brulee on Google, thinking that maybe these countries had radically different versions, but that was not the case either.

For a restaurant who has such good food overall, I'm afraid this is one of their flops.
