The mad and mighty Macbeth!

Kurzel's adaptation of Shakespeare's play of the same name, Macbeth is rough, ruthless and remarkable. This film preserves the original script and classic literature to a certain extent but the intensity of the primary tragedy is lost. The film is fierce and fascinating with a major focus on the battlefield scenes and thus making it a truly bloody and horror tragedy.

The ambitions, betrayals, hauntings and hallucinations play a major part in Macbeth and Fassbender delivers an unforgettable performance as the fearless and mighty Thane of Scotland who murders the king to claim the throne following three witches' predictions. He is tormented by the ghost of his victims and eventually his barbaric rule of madness and murders lead to his downfall.

Cotillard stops existing and convincingly becomes the ambitious Lady Macbeth with extraordinary expressions and elegance. I can't think of an actor more suitable for this role. Lady Macbeth's passion, persuasion and eventually her guilt makes and breaks her as the new queen and Cotillard's skilful deliverance brings Lady Macbeth's character to life. Both the leads were astounding but if they were to be compared Cotillard would lead.

Macbeth maintains the original classic touch with shots like 'Hail Macbeth' and the famous 'tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow' dialogue. The modern audience might actually have to pay a bit of extra attention in order to follow every word, dialogue and their significance. Macbeth's journey from being a mighty warrior, a ruthless murderer, a madman to a tyrannical king is both fascinating and haunting and this film is a splendid adaptation of the Scottish play.

Literature rich and visually stunning, Macbeth is the current big thing on the big screens.
