A drum, a drum Macbeth doth come (to Penge)
One of Shakespeare's most iconic plays is taking place at the less than likely pub of Bridge House in between Penge and Crystal Palace.

Bridge House

Arguably at the halfway point, and aptly situated just before the bridge, the pub is a warm and welcoming venue.

Not least somewhere I'd consider visiting to watch a play, but it is a nice surprise to think my local has a cultured ethos.

Bridge House used to be a rather battered, and frankly ugly old building. In its former guise, locals considered it a bit of a dive; new management, however have refurbished the pub and given it a lick of new dark paint, which has transformed the venue into one that beckons the thirsty passer-by.

I visited Bridge House over the weekend with my friends and it's even nicer on the inside. It is a large space, which makes way for what I imagine to be the perfect stage area for the play.

If you are a fan of Shakespeare and would like to see a classic performed by local talent (and at a fraction of what you'd pay in the West End), give Bridge House a visit.
